by Blue Jackets Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Numbers

18,717 – The attendance tonight at the 10th Fan Appreciate Night in Blue Jackets history, marking the club’s sixth sellout of the season. It might have been regular-season game No. 82, but it the building was rocking all night long. An entertaining hockey didn’t have the desired result for the good guys, however, as the Sabres pulled out a 5-4 win.

1 – Tonight's victory for Buffalo was its first-ever win at Nationwide Arena. The fifth time was the charm for the visitors, whose only previous point earned in Columbus was a 2-2 tie with the Blue Jackets back in 2001. The Blue Jackets still hold the edge all-time, with a 7-4-1 record in the series between the teams.

30 – Games between goals for Blue Jackets winger Jared Boll, whose presence of mind was rewarded with his seventh goal of the year – a career-high for the Charlotte, N.C. native. Matt Calvert’s drive to the net unnerved Sabres goalie Jhonas Enroth, and Boll potted the rebound to pull Columbus within 3-2.

2 –
Goaltenders used by the Sabres tonight, as starter Ryan Miller was lifted in favor of Enroth halfway through the second period. Miller had been out for a few games before returning Friday night for one period plus.

47 – Points from Blue Jackets center Derick Brassard this season, who emerged with a career-best season and solidified himself as an offensive force for Columbus. The 23-year-old set career-best marks this season in goals (17), assists (30) and points (47) – 11 more than his previous best of 36, set in 79 games last season.

Post-Game Quotes

Blue Jackets Head Coach Scott Arniel
Commenting on tonight's game…

"It was a very spirited game. We got down again and much like Nashville last night. I like the way we battled back and really got after them in the third period. We had lots of chances to get the lead before the penalty (to Craig Rivet in the third period)."

Commenting on the season…
"We have a hollow feeling right now. We're not playing next week and it's a little unsettling. We started with a job at the beginning of the year, to get into the playoffs and we didn't fulfill that (job). It's something we worked hard to do. We have to be more consistent with our style of play and our efforts, for 82 games not just 50 or 60."

Blue Jackets Right Wing Derek Dorsett
Commenting on his goal…

"The puck was loose in the neutral zone and Sammy (Pahlsson) picked it up and I told him to leave it. He threw it back and I had a lot of speed and I caught their defenseman flatfooted and I was going to shoot it but I saw (Ryan) Miller went down so I just went around the net and went for the wrap around."

Commenting on tonight's game…
"It was part of game plan to get pucks to the net and just keep shooting and get as many pucks to the net as we could and hopefully we could get some goals out of it.”

Blue Jackets Left Wing Kristian Huselius
Commenting on tonight's game…

"We wanted to have a good game tonight for the fans. Obviously we came up short. We battled to the end and came up short and that's the way it is."

Buffalo Sabres Head Coach Lindy Ruff
Commenting on tonight's game…

"We were a little sloppy in the first period. I thought our game looked good after that. It was a game we wanted to make sure we got through and nobody got hurt."
