Player's Perspective: Ryan Johansen (Vol. 2)

by Ryan Johansen / Columbus Blue Jackets

Did everybody have a good time last night?

A big thanks to the fans for a great atmosphere at the Honda NHL All-Star Skills Competition. Nationwide Arena was rocking and it was an honor to put on a show for you guys. It was pretty cool to walk into the building red-carpet style and meet the fans, take some photos and get everyone revved up for the festivities. You guys were awesome.

Have to say I'm happy with Team Foligno's victory in the Skills Competition - we put the work in and got the desired result (just kidding). It was so much fun and you could tell all the guys were having a blast...I've heard a lot of good things this weekend about the city and how everyone's really enjoying themselves and I think I'll hear a lot more before the weekend wraps up.

I got a lot of questions after the event about my shootout moves...to be honest, everything really came to me a few hours before we had to head over to the arena. I didn't really have a plan because I was mostly concerned with not messing up or falling flat on my face. The Ohio State jersey was something I really wanted to do; ever since I was drafted here and started my career in Columbus, I've been a huge Buckeyes fan and I go to as many games I can. I thought since they won the national championship a couple weeks ago that it would be fun to show my support for them and I think the hometown crowd liked it.

Like I said after the skills, I was thinking about finding a kid in the crowd and having them be my sidekick for the second attempt but I saw Cole Vogt (our athletic trainer's son) earlier in the day and I figured he would be perfect for it. Great goal he scored on Brian Elliott, too - a snipe right between the pads. Big goal for Team Foligno.

The Flying V was awesome. I love "The Mighty Ducks" (who doesn't though) and thought we could do something cool at the end. I think Foligno wanted to be Adam Banks but he ended up in the back like Goldberg, I think.

I feel like I'm repeating myself here but I can't say "thank you" enough to our fans and all the great hockey fans from out of town who've been here all weekend. Can't wait to play in my first All-Star Game later today!
