Rookie camp tryout invitee Geoff Platt scored a goal for the third consecutive game, lifting his CBJ Rookie Tournament-leading total to seven, but it wasn’t enough as the Detroit Red Wing rookies prevailed, 7-1, at the Traverse City Rookie Camp on Saturday. The CBJ rookie record falls to 3-1-0 as the rookie tournament comes to a close.

Mike Ullrich scored for the Red Wing rookies at 1:53, putting Detroit ahead 1-0 in the first period. A wild second period saw Detroit and Columbus combine to score six times on 31 shots on goal, while combining for 12 penalties and 33 PIM. Derek Meech and Patrick Jarret tallied goals in the first three minutes of the period for the Red Wings, to put Detroit up 3-0.

Platt then scored an unassisted goal to bring the CBJ Rookies within two, at 3-1. Detroit would go on to score four more times, highlighted by Robin Big Snake’s two-goal night.

Platt, a 5-9 center from Mississauga, Ontario, has led all CBJ rookies in goals, with seven, highlighted by his four-goal effort against the Tampa Bay Lightning rookies on Wednesday. Kirill Starkov paced Columbus with five shots on goal.
