The Columbus Blue Jackets are proud to congratulate Peter Lovins, Director of Legal Affairs, for being recognized as Highly Commended by Chambers and Partners at its annual Diversity and Inclusion Awards in San Francisco on Thursday night.
Chambers and Partners is a London-based company which ranks firms and lawyers in 185 countries and is often considered to be one of the legal profession's most prestigious ranking services.
Lovins was nominated by Vorys, the presenting sponsor of the Blue Jackets' most recent Hockey is for Everyone Night, in the category of "Future Leader - LGBT + Equality." This category recognizes a junior counsel who is leading the way in their commitment to LGBT, diversity and inclusion initiatives.
"I didn't fully grasp the magnitude of the nomination until they announced the finalists," Lovins said. "If you look down the list of the finalists, to see my name on that list is when it really hit me and was very humbling."
Out of all finalists across nine categories of awards for corporate lawyers, Lovins was the only nominee representing a professional sports organization.
"We were the only sports team recognized, which I think speaks to what we do as an organization," Lovins said. "For me personally it was humbling to be recognized for my individual work and for what we do as team to work towards these initiatives."
Blue Jackets Director of Human Resources Becky Magaw was in attendance for the awards ceremony to represent the entire organization as Lovins' cheering section.
