For the second straight year the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins meet in the Stanley Cup Finals and I for one think the Penguins have a chance to improve on last season's six-game series defeat at the hands of the Defending Champs!
The Penguins despite the defection to Detroit of Marian Hossa, I believe, are a much better team... better coached and with Crosby and Malkin a year older, both feed off each other and have had a greater impact in this year's postseason.
Billy Guerin has had a terrific playoff, compliments Crosby on their top line and I predict will be one of the Pens key performers in the finals. Another veteran I expect to make a huge contribution in the series is Defenseman Sergei Gonchar who is quarterback of their potent power play and seems to be recovered from the knee on knee hit earlier in the playoffs.
In goal Marc-Andre Fleury gives Pittsburgh an edge over Chris Osgood in the Detroit nets, but I must say Osgood has out performed everyone's expectations in these playoffs despite concerns about his play when the playoffs started in the Wings opening round series against the Blue Jackets.
As for Detroit we can't forget they are the Defending Stanley Cup Champions but as I write this we do not know the extent of the injuries to Captain Nicklas Lidstrom or Pavel Datsyuk, who missed part of the Conference finals against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Penguins in 7 in what should be a terrific series.
