On the way to San Jose...

January 4

Do you Know the Way to?… ahh… c'mon, you finish the sentence… Dionne Warwick could hummm you a few bars, and that song would stick with you all day long. We are on our way to the Northern California city in hopes of going 2-1-0 on the west coast swing.

What a game against LA!! It was one of the most physical games of the year, as it appeared the Kings wanted to run the CBJ out of the rink early and often. Between the hits of Dustin Brown and Rob Blake, the CBJ countered with some aggressive play of their own by every line that Hitch sent out.

After a conversation with Hitch in the morning skate, Sergei Fedorov adjusted his defensive demeanor to the overwhelming offensive onslaught. Scoring his 7th to get the CBJ on the board in the first, he added an assist on Lindstrom's 2nd in period 2. He also proceeded to go 80% in the face-off circle as well.

The line of Fedorov, Lindstrom and Murray was impressive. Andrew Murray did not collect a point, but his physical presence and straight ahead speed allowed space to be cleared for the heroes of the night.

The real hero of the game and first star was Michael Peca, who scored his 3rd & 4th goals of the year. (actually 3 game winning goals to boot) Jared Boll collected his first two assists as a pro, as he added two hits in his 8:11 of playing time.

Jan Hejda loved the pace of the game as it translated into the more physical the better. He added two assists, his second two point night as a CBJ. He never ceases to amaze at his strength and body positioning below the goal line, as he (22:14ice) and Adam Foote (26:39) continues to match up successfully each night against the league's best.

A look at the CBJ lines vs. LA

61-12-13            8-52

25-19-49            6-97

51-91-38            2-10

45-27-40            30

Out of the lineup were 33, 11, 24 & 55… minus three on the night was Novotny and Zherdev (Nash minus 2) as they matched up with the Brown Kopitar and O'Sullivan line.

Norrena finally got some offensive support with the four goals. He now has five wins in his last eight games… also one interesting stat!!... he was also credited with two giveaways.

Did you know that Jiri in Czech is actually “George”? Good evening ladies and gentleman, Jiri Matthews along with Billy Davidge bringing you the play by play…

Well, a day off in San Jose today will be dedicated to reading, writing and watching the World Junior game with Canada and the USA going to town! All of the staff will fit in a good workout and an early dinner.
