Off the Ice with... Cody Goloubef

by Staff / Columbus Blue Jackets

Other than being ridiculously good at their respective sport, professional athletes are (for the most part) just like everyone else.

They walk their dogs, watch football and binge-watch Netflix shows just like the rest of us. For this first installment of Off the Ice with..., defenseman Cody Goloubef shares with his favorite food, shoe brand, pastimes and more.

Favorite stores at Easton Town Center:
Apple Store, Lids, lululemon and Nordstrom

Favorite restaurants: Hudson 29 and Milestone 229

Favorite pastimes: Cooking, doing the USA Today crossword, going to the movies and walking his dog on the Scioto Trail

Dog: Miniature goldendoodle named Harley

“She turned two on Nov. fourth. We’re doing a shared Birthday, ‘cause she wasn’t here for her birthday so we’ll do a half dog-cake and half human-cake.”

Other dog treats: Said Harley enjoys BarkBox, which is a monthly box of dog goodies that comes in the mail

Favorite sport (other than hockey): Football

“(Matt Calvert) lives across the way, so I hang out with him. Watch football. I’m a big football guy, I watch football every Sunday and play fantasy all the time.

“I didn’t watch football until I went to school. When I went to Wisconsin, I was adopted into the Green Bay family, so I like the Packers.”

Favorite clothing item: Shoes.

Favorite shoe brand: Nike.

Last movie he saw in the theater: Black Mass at the Studio Movie Grill Arena Grand Theater

“I like the Arena Grand. You can order food, relax and put your feet up.”

Favorite movie genres: Drama and action, true stories and sports stories

Latest Netflix binge show: Narcos

“You gotta indulge. You can crush it quick. I like Narcos, I like Bloodline. I started getting into Scandal. I usually just watch that stuff mostly on the plane or just before bed to go to sleep.”

Favorite part about his parents visiting: home cooked meals

Favorite meal: Cabbage rolls, chicken paprikash

“I lived with (David Savard) the first couple of years in the minors, and we cooked a lot. We had a few grease fires along the way, but it was good.”

Favorite treat yo self spot: Tim Hortons

“I like to treat myself to an iced cappuccino every once in a while. Just when I deserve it though. I get one plain Timbit for my dog. She deserves a treat every once in a while, and I like to be the favorite so I bring it home.”

Describes Columbus as: Quiet, comfy, homey, college town

“I’m from Toronto, so it’s a little bit quitter. But it’s good. It’s a college town. You can walk around and you don’t get hassled, but I do like the buzz here. I like it here.”
