COLUMBUS, OHIO - Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL's Columbus Jackets, will remain host site of the Ohio High School Athletic Association's (OHSAA) state ice hockey tournament through 2027 following a ten-year extension announced by OHSAA, the Blue Jackets and Nationwide Arena. The ten-year extension begins with the 2018 championship set to be played Friday, March 9 and Saturday, March 10. The two-day tournament has been staged at the home of the Columbus Blue Jackets since 2003.
"It has been a great experience to host the OHSAA state hockey tournament at Nationwide Arena over the last 15 years and we look forward to building upon the great tradition for at least another ten years," said J.D. Kershaw, Columbus Blue Jackets Vice President of Marketing. "It is fantastic to see varsity hockey played in nearly 80 schools across the state and we're happy to have the opportunity to showcase Ohio's student-athletes."
"The schools that have advanced to the state tournament at Nationwide Arena have been thrilled to play on the home ice of the Blue Jackets," said Dr. Dan Ross, OHSAA Executive Director. "We are so pleased to be able to hold our hockey state tournament in such a wonderful arena and appreciate the great hospitality that the staff of the Blue Jackets and Nationwide Arena have shown the teams, communities and the OHSAA. We look forward to working together for years to come."
