More Interesting Facts Around the League

by Bill Davidge / Columbus Blue Jackets

May 13

Ron Wilson lost his job as the head coach of the San Jose Sharks on Tuesday night. There are jobs around the league that would entice Ron as Colorado, Toronto, Ottawa, Atlanta and Florida remain vacant… or does Ron work on the golf game and play the senior tour. He does have game.

Canada defeats Finland 6-3 in the World Championships with Pascal Leclaire in the pipes and collecting the win. Dany Heatly scored his nith goal in the tournament as Canada is now undefeated in their last 18 games… last lost was to Finland in the 2006 bronze medal game. The line of Getzlaf, Nash and Heatly are the most dominant line in the tournament.

Martin Erat has signed a seven-year $31.5 million contract… not to bad for a seventh round draft pick. He is one player the CBJ must contain in the future if ever we are to have success against Nashville.

Danny Briere is not very happy with the inconsistency of the officiating in the Pittsburgh-Philadelphia series. He was referring to the elbow that Malkin landed on his head during the 4-2 loss that left him star struck. He feels there is preferential treatment for the superstars in the league.

Marty Turco felt his team would respond with a solid effort in Dallas. He refers to his team as one that responds under pressure… but the Wings are being led by a hungry group that wants another cup. Datsyuk with a his first ever career hat trick (to me he is the best player in the game in all areas of the ice) and Jiri Hudler with a nice backhand on a breakaway and Zetterberg with an eight-game point streak are leading Detroit in their puck control game… Dallas has no secondary scoring… sound familiar. They are in dire straits against the season's President's Trophy winner.

Philadelphia is in trouble. Timonen is out with a blood clot in his ankle and Braydon Colbourn has 50 stitches embedded around his left eye. It remains closed shut and all indications are that there is no structural damage. Their only solace remains in the fact that they return back to the Wachovia Center.

One side note… one member in the Davidge residence is in morning this week… me… as my golf clubs were stolen from a car at the Brickyard Golf Course last week in Indy. Jeff Logan, captain of the 1977 Ohio State Football Buckeyes and I played in a fund raiser earlier in the day. We were there to support a young Buckeye who has testicular cancer and is in treatment in an Indianapolis hospital. Jeff also had his disappear as did three other golfers. Besides family and close friends, they remained very dear to my heart until their disappearance.
