COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed left wing Fredrik Modin on Injured Reserve, retroactive to November 2, and have recalled center Kris Beech and defenseman Duvie Westcott from the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson announced Sunday. Modin has not played in a game since suffering a back injury at Anaheim on November 1. Westcott was on a conditioning assignment with the Crunch.

Beech, 26, has registered five goals and 10 assists for 15 points with 22 penalty minutes in 16 games this season with the Crunch. He ranks eighth in the AHL in points and is tied for eighth in assists, while ranking second on the Crunch in both categories. He collected 8-18-26 points and 46 penalty minutes in 64 games last season with the Washington Capitals. He tied for fifth on the club in goals and was seventh in points, while setting a new career high in points. He has accumulated 19-37-56 with 109 penalty minutes in 173 career games with Washington, Nashville and Pittsburgh. He was the Capitals’ first pick, seventh overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with the Blue Jackets as a free agent on August 7.

Westcott, 30, had three assists and two penalty minutes in two games with the Crunch. He has appeared in five games with Columbus this season, collecting 16 penalty minutes. He missed the final 40 games of the 2006-07 season due to a concussion suffered at San Jose on January 6. Westcott has appeared in 183 games with the Blue Jackets during his NHL career, registering 10 goals and 42 assists for 52 points with 285 penalty minutes.
