Mixer's Mailbag: Offseason Vol. 14

by Rob Mixer / Columbus Blue Jackets

Thanks to all who submitted questions for the offseason's 14th #CBJ mailbag. Hopefully, we'll get together every Thursday/Friday and I'll answer your questions, so send them to @RobMixer anytime.

If the Blue Jackets were a pizza, what toppings would it have?

They would have only the best toppings, so using that as the barometer, we’re going with pepperoni and meatball. Yes, on the same pizza.

Here’s the thing: pepperoni and sausage is a popular pizza combination, and I get it, but why would you want two spicy/mild meats on the same pizza? Kind of redundant, if you ask me. Very similar flavor profiles and the wrong type of sausage can overpower everything else on the pie. Give me something mild like a pepperoni and also something savory like a meatball, and you’ve got the perfect harmony.

What will the top 6 forwards in Cleveland look like? It could be an exciting group with Rychel, Anderson, Milano, Bjorkstrand, etc.

You’re right that it’s an exciting group.

The names you’ve mentioned are all in the conversation, and then you add in William Karlsson, potentially Markus Hannikainen (signed to an entry-level deal this summer), Josh Anderson, Daniel Zaar, TJ Tynan and several others. Put it this way: it does not appear as though the Lake Erie Monsters will struggle to score goals this season. On the defensive side, they’re a little less proven but Jared Bednar has a solid structure that we saw in Springfield, as well.

Here’s my projection:

Milano – Karlsson – Bjorkstrand

Rychel – Chaput/Tynan – Anderson

I've noticed David Clarkson has done so much in the community this offseason. It's awesome. Is he known for that league wide?

He is, and everyone I’ve talked to in the league is not the least bit surprised that Clarkson has gotten heavily involved in the central Ohio community right away. If you talk to the great people who work for the Blue Jackets Foundation, they’ll tell you that Clarkson is regularly coming to them with ideas, asking if certain things are possible and how he can help get them done.

Clarkson’s one heck of a guy and this community is better off having him around.

Do you think the cannon logo jersey will become the primary jersey and a new alternate will be revealed in 16-17?

I do not. The primary logo -- as you currently see it -- is the center piece of the Blue Jackets’ brand, and it's not going anywhere.
