Mixer's Mailbag: Offseason Vol. 13

by Rob Mixer / Columbus Blue Jackets

Thanks to all who submitted questions for the offseason's 13th #CBJ mailbag. Hopefully, we'll get together every Thursday/Friday and I'll answer your questions, so send them to @RobMixer anytime.

Do you think that Milano or Bjorkstrand have a chance with the big club this year? Also anymore word on Ehrhoff?

I think they both have a chance, for sure.

*borrows coach's hat*

How good of a chance that chance becomes is entirely up to them. The Blue Jackets are in a comfortable spot with most of their roster decisions already made and a lot of established players in place, so training camp will be used primarily to figure out who fits where and with whom. It's all going to change within a game or two because that's how hockey goes, but you want players to find chemistry early in camp so you can have some set combinations to begin the season.

Milano and Bjorkstrand are two of those "bubble" guys but it's not the end of the world if they go to Cleveland and tear it up. It makes the call-up decision easy, it makes the Monsters better, and it creates even more internal competition for jobs. I talked to Todd Richards last week and he said the team's depth is better than he's ever seen it, and that next wave of young, hungry players isn't far off at all.

On the Ehrhoff front, nothing new. A lot of talk, speculation, etc., but the Blue Jackets seem quite content to go to training camp with this group of players.

So when's the big golf competition with Dubi?

That's up to him. I've offered, so we'll see what happens.

I will say, though, that based on how I've been putting lately...he might actually have a chance.

When does the ice go in at Nationwide?

As of today, the main ice is scheduled to be installed at Nationwide Arena before Labor Day, quite possibly the first week of September. Don't worry -- you'll be able to watch the entire beautiful process unfold on social media, on the web and through video. We'll have you covered.

What's the best food truck?

Tough question. I'll call it a tie between two of my personal favorites: Tato Heads and the Explorers Club food truck. If you find the Explorers Club truck, do yourself a favor and get the Mofongo sandwich.

It's quite an experience. I wouldn't steer you wrong. Promise.

Also: go to the Food Truck Festival this weekend at Columbus Commons. It's awesome.
