McConnell Education Foundation Honor Local High School Hockey Teams During Pre-Game Ceremony Decemeber 27

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets join the McConnell Education Foundation in recognizing 35 Columbus-area high school hockey programs during a pre-game ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 27th when the Jackets host the Calgary Flames. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Nationwide Arena.

The McConnell Education Foundation, which has offered philanthropic support for high school hockey in greater Columbus for the past 13 years, has donated more than $700,000 since its inception. Grants will be awarded to clubs from the Capital Hockey Conference and Greater Columbus High School Club Hockey League.

This year’s recipients include high school varsity and junior varsity teams representing Bishop Watterson, Dublin Coffman, Dublin Jerome, Dublin Scioto, Gahanna Lincoln, Olentangy, Olentangy Liberty, Olentangy Orange, St. Charles, St. Francis DeSales, Thomas Worthington, Upper Arlington and Worthington Kilbourne.

Additional programs receiving grants include Northeast Storm (representing Bexley, Johnstown and New Albany); Hilliard Wildcats (representing Hilliard area); Westerville Warcats (representing Westerville area); Prowler Hockey (representing Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, Pataskala, and Canal Winchester) and Newark Generals.

For the first time, the McConnell Education Foundation will award a grant to the Columbus Ice Hockey Club from the Columbus City Schools and Columbus Recreation and Parks Department. This year marks the first season the team has competed in the junior varsity division of the Capital Hockey Conference.

One player from each club will participate in the pre-game ceremony and join the Blue Jackets and Calgary Flames on the red line prior to the National Anthems. Before the ceremony, head coaches, booster club presidents and selected players will attend a private reception in the Founders’ Club of Nationwide Arena where Blue Jackets President Mike Priest will award the grants on behalf of the McConnell family.
