Steve Mason, attempting to find his Calder Trophy winning rookie season "edge," makes his second straight start tonight against division rival Nashville at Nationwide. When asked after this mornings optional skate his thoughts on giving Mason the start, Coach Hitchcock was quick with his answer... "gut reaction!" "It's my decision I like the way he reacted after the third goal," adding... "It was a bad goal and he knows it." Hitchcock went on to talk about all the young players saying... "We can keep bailing on people or ride it out." The Jackets head coach is saying he will continue to use Derick Brassard, Jake Voracek and Mason in key situations, in an attempt to get them over the hump and the needed confidence boost moving forward.
He also made it clear as far as goaltending is concerned, Mathieu Garon will get his share of the Columbus net... working out who starts depending on the opposition as well as the circumstances surrounding the games.
Voracek, incidentally did take part in today's optional skate feeling no ill effects of the elbow he took in Boston and will be in the lineup tonight. Mark Methot skated today and should be ready for Thursday's home start against the Los Angeles Kings, while it was great seeing Rusty Klesla take part in a pre-game skate, but he is still not close to returning to the lineup - best Guess there, sometime early next month.
Tonight's game is in HD and its a 7 p.m. start if you can't make it to Nationwide tonight.
