Looking For More Effort

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

December 10

Coach Hitchcock will be looking for a much better effort tonight what with the defending Stanley Cup champion Ducks in town. The Blue Jackets coach wasn't making idle threats in his post game news confrence after Saturday's disappointing loss to the Minnesota Wild. It's not so much of a trade that is in the offing... but I suspect he will diminish the ice time of those that as he said this morning... are trying to get it done with "skill" as opposed with "heavy work" that makes them successful.

The Jackets tonight will give Derek MacKenzie an opportunity to show his stuff. MacKenzie will center the fourth line with Shelly and Boll. This will be his 29th NHL game. MacKenzie is a sixth round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers... and I remember Hitch commenting positively on his preseason play.

Pascal Leclaire gets the start in goal... and it will be the same six on defense that played Saturday.

Good news on the injury front both Novotny and Malhotra looked great this morning in the CBJ morning skate and I'd bet one or both centers will be ready Wednesday so as I said earlier, those that don't show that Blue Jackets "work ethic" will likely be watching from the press box in the very near future!

Enjoy tonight's game!
