WEEK IN REVIEW: Nov. 23 Nashville 4, at Blue Jackets 2: Nashville scored twice in a span of :57 early in the second period to take a 3-1 lead and Scott Hartnell added a goal with 1:22 left in the third to ice the win for the Predators. Nikolai Zherdev and Manny Malhotra scored for Columbus, who got 37 saves from Pascal Leclaire. Chris Mason made 35 saves for the Predators Nov. 25 Avalanche 5, at Blue Jackets 0: Colorado got goals from five different players and won despite being outshot 35 to 34 by the Blue Jackets. Ian Laperriere scored with :33 left in the first to give the Avs a 2-0 lead and Andrew Brunette lit the lamp with :24 left in the second to extend the lead to 3-0. David Aebischer made 35 saves for Colorado, which went 2-of-4 on the power play compared to Columbus' 0-of-1 Nov. 26 Blue Jackets 4, at Blues 3: Rookie Gilbert Brule scored the tying goal :28 into the third period and Aaron Johnson added the game-winner at the 9:56 mark as Columbus overcame 2-1 and 3-2 deficits. Manny Malhotra led the Blue Jackets with 1-2-3, while Jody Shelley and David Vyborny each added 0-2-2. Luke Richardson also scored his first goal of the season and Martin Prusek stopped 31-of-34 shots in net to earn the win.
FEDOROV TO PLAY IN 1,000TH NHL GAME ON WEDNESDAY: On Wednesday at Minnesota, C Sergei Fedorov is expected to play in the 1,000th game of his NHL career as he enters the week having registered 431-591-1,022 and 637 penalty minutes in 999 career games. He will become the first Russian-born and trained player to reach the milestone (Peter Bondra was born in the Ukraine, but raised in Slovakia and is listed as a Slovakian player). He will become the 13th European-born and trained player to reach 1,000 NHL games and the 205th player overall to do so. Among Russian players, Fedorov ranks first all-time in games played and assists and is second in points (two behind New Jerseys Alexander Mogilny) and third in goals (behind Mogilny and Pavel Bure).
MALHOTRA HEATING UP: C Manny Malhotra scored his first goal of the season vs. Nashville on Nov. 23, added his second tally at St. Louis on Nov. 26 and has tallied 2-3-5 in his last four games. He currently leads the club in assists and is tied for second in points with 2-13-15 in 24 games. He has registered an even or plus plus/minus rating in 11 of his last 15 games (+1 during that span) and is +3 in his last four. The seven-year NHL veteran has already matched his career high for assists in a season, equaling the 12-13-25 in 65 games with the Blue Jackets and Dallas Stars in 2003-04. All his points came in 55 games with Columbus that season.
BLUE JACKETS VIEWING PARTY AT BUFFALO WILD WINGS ON WEDNESDAY: All fans are invited to the Buffalo Wild Wings at Bethel Centre for a Blue Jackets Viewing Party on Wednesday night. Archie from Q-FM96 will host the event starting at 7:30p.m. Prizes will be awarded throughout the night, including autographed pucks, Bud Light Party Zone jerseys and tickets to upcoming games. Face-off between the Blue Jackets and Minnesota Wild is set for 8 p.m. on FSN Ohio. The Buffalo Wild Wings is located at 5240 Bethel Centre.
JODY SHELLEY BOOK JACKETS APPEARANCE SET FOR SATURDAY : LW Jody Shelley will be reading to young fans at the Gahanna Branch of the Columbus Metropolitan Library on Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. as part of the Blue Jackets Book Jackets program. Book Jackets is an educational program that uses team celebrities as role models for literacy to help encourage students in grades K-8 to spend more of their free time reading. The program rewards students through incentives based on time children spend reading.
JASON CHIMERA TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS, SKATE WITH FANS AT COLUMBUS ZOO ON SATURDAY: LW Jason Chimera will be skating with fans and signing autographs at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium on Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. He will skate with fans at the zoo's ice rink from 5 to 6 p.m. and will sign autographs from 6 to 7 p.m.
GILBERT BRULE, DAN FRITSCHE TO SIGN AUTOGRAPHS AT OSU HOCKEY GAME SATURDAY NIGHT: Blue Jackets rookie centers Gilbert Brule and Dan Fritsche will be signing autographs for fans at the Ohio State Alabama-Huntsville game at Value City Arena on Saturday. The two players will be signing autographs from 6 to 6:45 p.m. and dropping the ceremonial first puck prior to the game at 7 p.m.
