Legein, Canada Continue Dominance

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Stefan Legein scored his third goal in as many games and added an assist to help Team Canada claim the third game of the Canada Russia Super Series, 6-2, over Team Russia in Omsk, Russia today. Maxim Mayorov, the Blue Jackets' fifth pick, 94th overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft was scoreless for Team Russia, while goaltender Steve Mason, Columbus' second pick, 69th overall in the 2006 Entry Draft, did not play.

Legein, the club's second pick, 37th overall in the 2007 Entry Draft, scored his third goal of the series at the 6:14 mark of the third period to push Canada's lead to 5-2. He also assisted on Claude Giroux' power play goal at 5:28 of the third to make it 4-2 Canada. Kyle Turris scored for the third time in as many games, while Sam Gagner, Colton Gillies and Zachary Boychuk all scored for Canada.

The Canada Russia Super Series is an eight-game series between the two countries under-20 teams. It was set up to commemorate the 1972 Summit Series between the teams. The series first four games are being played in Russia (Ufa and Omsk), while the final four games will be played in Canada (Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Red Deer and Vancouver). The series continues with the fourth game on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 6 a.m. ET.

The Blue Jackets will begin preparations for the 2007-08 NHL season by participating in the annual Prospects Tournament in Traverse City, Michigan September 7-11. The club will open its seventh training camp in Columbus with physicals and strength & conditioning testing on Thursday, September 13 and on-ice workouts on Friday, September 14. Complete training camp information will be released in the coming days.
