In celebration of the upcoming holiday season, the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation announces the release of Hockey Holidays from the Blue Jackets, a nine-song benefit CD featuring a host of traditional holiday favorites sung by a chorus of Blue Jackets players. This exclusive CD, priced at $10, will be available starting Wednesday, Nov. 22. Proceeds will benefit the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation Family Resource Center at Columbus Children’s Hospital (scheduled to open February, 2007) and the Riverside Cancer Services KidShare program.
The idea to record a holiday CD in the name of charity was conceived by Blue Jackets forward Anson Carter who also collaborated with his teammates to compose original lyrics for their hockey-themed rendition of “12 Days of Christmas.” In addition to Carter, other players who lent their singing talents to the project include Jason Chimera, Dan Fritsche, Aaron Johnson, Pascal Leclaire, Manny Malhotra, Fredrik Modin, Jody Shelley and Ole-Kristian Tollefsen. Hockey Holidays from the Blue Jackets contains the following beloved holiday tunes along with a bonus track containing outtakes from the recording session:
Deck the Halls
Let It Snow
12 Days of Christmas
Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer
Jingle Bell Rock
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
Frosty the Snowman
Hockey Holidays from the Blue Jackets will be available at The Blueline at Nationwide Arena, at The Blueline’s seasonal store at The Mall at Tuttle Crossing and at the Blue Jackets Zones in the Chiller Ice Rinks. CDs may also be purchased during home games at the Blue Jackets Foundation table located on the main concourse near section 110. For more information or to request a mail-order form, call (614) 246-3707 or email cbjfoundation@BlueJackets.com.
Other in-game holiday initiatives include the Foundation’s raffle for the full-size Blue Jackets Foundation Tree presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods (Nov. 22 - Dec. 18); the player-designed Festival of Trees silent auction (Dec. 10 – 22) and photos with Santa Stinger (Dec. 16 – 22). The Blue Jackets Foundation was founded in March 2000 and has since donated over $1 million dollars to local non-profit organizations dedicated to one or more of its main pillars of giving: pediatric cancer, education, children’s health and safety and the development of youth and amateur hockey.
