Center Ryan Johansen
, the Columbus Blue Jackets’ top pick in the 2010 Entry Draft, was among the 22 players selected to comprise Canada’s National Junior Team at the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship in Buffalo, N.Y. from December 26, 2010 through January 5, 2011, Hockey Canada announced today.
Johansen, 18, was the fourth overall pick at last June’s Entry Draft held at STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. He has tallied 17-19-36 with 26 penalty minutes and a plus/minus rating of +17 in 31 games with the Western Hockey League’s Portland Winterhawks this season. The Port Moody, British Columbia native has registered 42-63-1-5, 79 penalty minutes and is +34 in 102 career WHL games.
Canada’s National Junior Team will play in three pre-competition games prior to the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship, including games against Switzerland on December 20, Sweden on December 21 and Finland on December 23 before playing its first game of the 2011 IIHF World Junior Championship on December 26 vs. Russia at Buffalo’s HSBC Arena.
The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they visit the Vancouver Canucks. Game time is set for 10 p.m. ET at Rogers Arena. The game will broadcast live on the Wheeling Island Hotel & Casino Blue Jackets Radio Network, including flagship station 97.1 The Fan, and online at BlueJackets.com.
