For the second time this summer, Blue Jackets fans who have held season tickets in previous years or who are considering renewing tickets had the chance to see the team's exciting changes first-hand and from a "behind the scenes" perspective.
The team's inspired play down the stretch of the 2012-13 season has resulted in positive momentum is season ticket sales and renewals, and touching base with fans who may be interested in returning as ticket holders has been a focal point for the club.
The first such event of the offseason went extremely well and fans really enjoyed the opportunity to see what's new around Nationwide Arena and learn more about the team's bright future. Blue Jackets winger Jared Boll was in attendance for that special event, meeting with fans and sharing his thoughts on the team and its move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-14.
But on Thursday night, it was Boone Jenner doing the honors along with Blue Jackets radio voice Bob McElligott. One of the team's many bright young prospects, Jenner is in town for the summer and working out with strength and conditioning coach Kevin Collins - all in an effort to crack the NHL roster out of training camp and make his Blue Jackets debut this season.
Jenner was on hand to give tours of the team dressing room and training facilities, answer questions about his offseason workout routine and a lot more. The up-front access to Blue Jackets players is just one of many benefits enjoyed annually by the club's passionate group of season ticket holders.
Making the team was just one of the topics Jenner talked about with fans at this latest event, and Jenner was able to share some of his hockey experiences with the group, as well.
"You can see with the turnout here, there's definitely a lot of interest in the team and what's going on," Jenner told BlueJackets.com. "It's really cool that we can bring fans in here, show them what it's like in our locker room and give a little tour. The hockey's really exciting right now and this is an exciting team to be part of."
With the NHL Draft on the horizon this weekend, Jenner (a Blue Jackets draft pick in 2011) was also able to recall the day he heard his name called at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. This year's draft is an additional source of excitement for Blue Jackets fans, with the team holding three first-round picks and four in the first 44 selections, offering GM Jarmo Kekalainen and his staff a plethora of options.
Coupled with the excitement of a new division, balanced schedule and a team on the rise, it has become pretty clear to many of the fans in attendance that the time to "join the battle" is upon them.
"It's an exciting time, for sure," Jenner said during last night's event. "There are a lot of positive things going on right now, and the draft is just one of them. I remember my draft day, and I remember being a little nervous and then getting the call. It's a special moment and one that I'll never forget."
