The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled forward Steven Goertzen from the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Tuesday.
Goertzen, 22, has appeared in 39 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets, collecting 44 penalty minutes during the 2005-06 season. He has also registered 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points with 197 penalty minutes in 116 career AHL games with the Crunch, including 2-2-4 and 28 penalty minutes in 11 games this season.
The Stony Plain, Alberta, native was Columbus’ 11th pick, 225th overall, in the 2002 Entry Draft. He spent three seasons in the Western Hockey League, where he tallied 33-46-79 and 254 penalty minutes in 206 games with the Seattle Thunderbirds from 2001-04. His best season was 2003-04 when he set career highs with 15-18-33 and 115 penalty minutes in 69 games.
The Blue Jackets return to action on Thursday when they visit the St. Louis Blues. Game time is set for 8 p.m. ET with live coverage on FSN Ohio beginning with the IceBreaker pre-game show at 7:30 p.m. Coverage also includes the Blue Jackets Ice Cap post-game show immediately following the game. The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM Sports Radio 1460 the Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
