Jackets Re-Assign Three To Syracuse

The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-assigned goaltender Andrew Penner and forwards Joakim Lindstrom and Ben Simon to the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, club President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Monday.

Lindstrom has appeared in three games for the Blue Jackets this season, recording four shots on goal. A second round pick of the Blue Jackets in the 2002 Entry Draft, he has scored 9-17-26 with a +6 plus-minus rating, four power-play goals and two shorthanded goals in 36 games with Syracuse this season, his first full year in North America. The Skelleftea, Sweden native made his North American debut at the end of the 2004-05 season, scoring 4-4-8 in 13 games. Prior to coming to North America, he scored 12-13-25 in 133 regular season games and 4-7-11 in 27 playoff games during parts of five seasons with MoDo of the Swedish Elite League.

Simon has skated in 11 games with the Blue Jackets this season, registering four penalty minutes and seven shots on goal. The Shaker Heights, Ohio native has added 11-11-22 with 49 PIMs in 40 AHL games with Syracuse and ranks tied for third in the AHL with three shorthanded goals. Signed as a free agent by the Blue Jackets this summer, Simon has scored 3-1-4 with 47 PIMs in 79 career NHL games split between Atlanta and Columbus.

Penner has spent four games with the Blue Jackets this season, serving as the backup goaltender in each of those contests. He has appeared in 25 games with the Crunch this season, recording a 13-7-1 record with a 3.09 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. In his past three starts, Penner has posted a 2-1-0 record, stopping 87-of-91 (.956) with a 1.33 goals-against average. He is 21-19-1 with a 2.89 goals-against average in 48 career AHL games.

The Blue Jackets are in the middle of the two -week Olympic Break and return to action on Thursday, March 2 when they travel to Denver to face the Colorado Avalanche. Game time is set for 9 p.m. ET, with FSN Ohio's Ice Breaker pre-game show starting at 8:30 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship stations WBNS-AM Sports Radio 1460 the Fan and WWCD-FM, CD101.
