The Blue Jackets play the Bruins here in Boston tonight looking to end a three-game road losing streak against a team in the Bruins that have lost three straight overall. The Bruins recently returned from a West Coast road trip then in their first game back were badly outplayed in a 5-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators. Some folks in the Bruins organization have complained about the travel out west and then a quick return to action when they returned home. They get little sympathy from teams like the Jackets and the Red Wings, teams in the Eastern time zone that must deal with that all season long!
I had a chance to visit with assistant coach Craig Ramsey after the Bruins skate and Ramsey shook his head and said "we are not playing poorly, but we can't seem to score goals when we need to!" Sound familiar? The Jackets will face another back-up goaltender tonight with Tim Thomas not as sharp as he has been in the past few seasons getting the night off, while Tuukka Rask gets the start. Head coach Claude Julien is quick to point out that their is NO goaltending controversy here Boston.
As for the Blue Jackets, Steve Mason gets the start in goal. Mike Commodore returns to the lineup in place of Mark Methot. Freddie Modin, as coach Hitchcock stated on his weekly radio show on 97.1 the Fan last night, will move to center tonight between Derek Dorsett and Jared Boll in an effort to establish a fore-check in the Bruins end of the ice.
The Jackets need to get Jake Voracek going offensively. Voracek is goalless in 19 games! That said, Coach Hitchcock is certainly not displeased with the youngsters play... "Voracek has played well for a 20 year old"... adding, "I know he hasn't scored, but I do like his play."
Tonight's game is in HD beginning with Ray Crawford and Blue Jackets Live at 6:30 p.m. Game time from the TD Garden here in Boston is 7 p.m.
