Jackets Look for Some Middle Ground as They Host St. Louis Tonight

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

January 18

The Blue Jackets will attempt to avenge last week's 4-1 loss to the Blues in St. Louis and at the same time look for the offense they displayed Saturday in a 6-5 loss to Chicago. But, while the Jackets hope to continue the goal onslaught they must be better defensively. They did move the puck effectively out of their zone Saturday, but were guilty of defensive lapses in their own end and that's when the puck found its way to the back of the Jackets net.

Mathieu Garon, who had the matinee against the Hawks off... is expected to return to the Jackets nets, but will be a game-time decision. Garon left practice early with a minor injury. He had started five-straight games and was solid in each start!

Freddie Modin is also expected to return to the lineup against the Blues. Modin will likely lineup alongside Sammy Pahlsson and Chris Clark.

The Blue Jackets and St Louis have each won once in the season series. The Jackets winning 5-2 at Nationwide with R.J. Umberger recording his second career hat-trick and a four-point night back on November 30.

Tonight's game begins at 7 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio. Blue Jackets Live hits the air at 6:30 p.m. with Jeff Hogan.
