Alex Ovechkin, one of the NHL's premier players tonight makes a Nationwide Arena appearance looking to add to his goal total (46) and his Points total (102). Ovechkin has his eyes on both the Maurice Richard Trophy (goals) and the Art Ross Trophy (points) and both are within his grasp! Alex the Great, is second to Sydney Crosby's 47 goals and he is also second to Henrik Sedin's NHL-leading points total of 105.
As for the Capitals, they are second to none! They lead the NHL with 112 points and their 50 wins are also a League high. The Presidents' Trophy for the top points total is just a little over a week away from being presented, but what they really are gunning for is the top prize this spring, the Stanley Cup!
Tonight's game marks the return for the first time of former Blue Jacket Jason Chimera who was traded to the Capitals back on December 28. Chimera says it will be an emotional return to Nationwide this evening. Chimera had hoped to remain a Blue Jacket for the rest of his career. Although Jackets coach Claude Noel would not name his starting goaltender, saying it will be a game time decision, I believe watching this morning's pre-game skate, we will likely see Steve Mason between the pipes tonight. Mason's record against the Capitals is outstanding! He is a perfect 3-0-0 with a 1.33 goals against average, a .963 save percentage and two shut-outs... identical 3-0 wins last season. Jose Theodore gets the start for the Capitals. Tonight's game is in HD and begins with Blue Jackets Live at 6:30 p.m. on FOX Sports Ohio
