Denver, COL (Ticker) Alex Tanguay and rookie sensation Marek Svatos helped the surging Colorado Avalanche extend their winning streak.

Tanguay and Svatos tallied in both regulation and the shootout as the Avalanche recorded a 3-2 triumph over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Since dropping a 5-2 decision at San Jose on December 30, Colorado has won four straight to climb back into contention in the Northwest Division.

The Avalanche came out firing on Saturday as Tanguay and Svatos both netted power-play goals in the opening period.

However, the Blue Jackets rallied to tie the game in the third and force overtime. After a scoreless extra session, Tanguay and Svatos teamed with goaltender David Aebischer to triumph in the shootout.

Blue Jackets rookie Jaroslav Balastik opened the shootout with a goal, but Svatos evened things in the bottom half of the first round with a backhander over the stick of rookie goalie Pascal Leclaire.

Aebischer made a pair of phenomenal saves over the next three rounds to set the stage for Tanguay, who wristed a shot between Leclaire's pads to clinch the victory for Colorado.

Aebischer finished with 19 saves and defenseman Patrice Brisebois registered two assists for the Avalanche, who have won both of their meetings with the Blue Jackets this season.

Leclaire stopped a career-high 46 shots, but Columbus dropped its third straight and fell to 1-2-1 on its five-game road trip.

Rick Nash tallied at 7:19 of the third period for the Blue Jackets to forge a 2-2 tie.

Nikolai Zherdev gained possession in the right corner before sending a pass into the slot for Nash, who snapped a shot over Aebischer's glove to secure at least a point for Columbus.
