Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Rostislav Klesla has been suspended two games by the National Hockey League for a hit on Chicago Blackhawks forward Tuomo Ruutu during a preseason game on Sept. 22, the NHL and the Blue Jackets announced today. Klesla will miss Columbus' first two regular season games – Oct. 6 vs. Vancouver and Oct. 7 at Chicago.
Blue Jackets President and General Manager Doug MacLean also announced that eight players have been assigned to the Syracuse Crunch, the club's American Hockey League affiliate. The clubâ€™s roster now stands at 28 players.
The following players were assigned to the Crunch: defensemen Tomas Kloucek, Filip Novak and Jamie Pushor, right wings Joe Motzko and Brandon Sugden, left wing Joakim Lindstrom and centers Eric Boguniecki and Janne Hauhtonen.
The Blue Jackets (3-3-0) close out their preseason schedule on Friday at the RBC Center in Raleigh, North Carolina against the defending Stanley Cup champion Carolina Hurricanes. Game time is 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on FSN Ohio with Jeff Rimer (play-by-play) and Danny Gare (color analyst) calling the action.
The Blue Jackets officially begin their sixth NHL season on Friday, Oct. 6 against the Vancouver Canucks. Game time at Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive at the arena and be in their seats by 6:45 p.m. for the start of the pre-game festivities.
