Jackets Conclude Preseason At Carolina Tonight

by Staff Writer / Columbus Blue Jackets
Tonight will be a night of firsts and lasts for the Jackets.

The Jackets preseason game at Carolina tonight is the last of the games that do not count and the last opportunity for the Jackets to prepare for the ones that do.

Tonight is also the Jackets' 2006-07 premiere on FSN Ohio and the debut of new color analyst Danny Gare, who will team with returning CBJ play-by-play caller Jeff Rimer.

Columbus (3-3) will travel to Raleigh, N.C., to face the defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes (0-3), still searching for their first win, in the Jackets' preseason finale starting at 7 p.m., live on FSN Ohio.

The Hurricanes have not won since dispatching the Oilers in Game Seven of the Stanley Cup Finals, losing their last contest vs. the Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Sunday, by a 4-2 score. Rick Nash, who will play in tonight's game, scored two goals, while Geoff Platt and Dan Fritsche also scored. Tonight's roster

Tonight will also be the first night that third-line center Manny Malhotra skates with the top scoring line, centering for Nash and David Vyborny, as a result of the injury to Sergei Fedorov.

"Right now it is going to be Manny Malhotra, and we are going to switch his old line up a little bit and put Geoff Platt up with Jason Chimera and Dan Fritsche on that third line," Head coach Gerard Gallant said. "We will put Manny up there and see how it goes."

Tonight will also mark the preseason debut of Captain Adam Foote, who is expected to start tonight for the first time since having off-season surgery. The projected Jackets lineup sans Bryan Berard, the injured Fedorov and Alexander Svitov and the recently signed Nikolai Zherdev, will be in action tonight, giving fans a chance to look at the 2006-07 Blue Jackets.

The Jackets open their sixth season on Friday, Oct. 6, hosting the Vancouver Canucks at 7 p.m. at Nationwide Arena.
