Jackets Begin Western Canada Swing Tonight in Calgary

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

February 24

To a man the Blue Jackets players and coaching staff feel it was an advantage traveling early Sunday night out West here to Calgary, spending an extra night here in preparation for their key Western Canadian trip that begins this evening against the third place Flames!!

Two of the three games are against teams the Blue Jackets are fighting against for one of the remaining playoff spots (Edmonton and Vancouver). Words like excited and ready have been verbalized by the players who start the trip in sixth place in the conference and in fact some of the media types out here in Calgary are billing tonight's affair as a possible preview of a first round match-up!

Coach Hitchcock after today's morning skate telling the gathered media scrum that he is looking forward to seeing if the Blue Jackets are good enough to get into the playoffs and confident that his team will step up when they have to, starting tonight against a good solid hockey team like the Flames.

Jason Chimera returns to the lineup tonight after a "maintenance game" off Saturday... and Aaron Rome plays his first game with the CBJ this season after a solid year in Syracuse.

Tonight's scratches are Jiri Novotny, Chris Gratton and Christian Backman.

Steve Mason feels much better after a couple of days off and will start in goal against the Flames Miikka Kiprusoff, who according to the Calgary players is THE reason the Flames have points in seven straight games! Game time on Fox Sports Ohio is 9 p.m.
