The Columbus Blue Jackets have activated center Sergei Fedorov off Injured Reserve and recalled left wing Alexandre Picard from the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate, team President and General Manager Doug MacLean announced Monday. Both players are expected to be in the lineup for tonight’s game against the San Jose Sharks.
Fedorov suffered a shoulder injury during a preseason game Sept. 19 vs. Buffalo and has yet to play this season. Entering his 16th NHL campaign, Fedorov has registered 443-620-1,063 and 695 penalty minutes in 1,055 career games. He tallied 12-32-44 and 66 penalty minutes in 67 games last season, including 12-31-43 and 64 penalty minutes in 62 games after joining the Blue Jackets on Nov. 15, 2005, from the Anaheim Ducks. He finished the season with 11-35-36 in his final 41 games.
Picard, 21, has scored two goals and collected 12 penalty minutes in six games with Syracuse this season. He joined the Crunch after ranking second on the Blue Jackets in scoring during the preseason with three goals and two assists for five points in five games.
Columbus’ first pick, eighth overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, Picard collected 14 penalty minutes in 17 games with Columbus in 2005-06. He also tallied 15-15-30 and 52 penalty minutes in 45 AHL games with Syracuse. Prior to turning professional, he spent three-plus seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he registered 93-104-197 and 289 penalty minutes in 206 games with Sherbrooke and Lewiston. He notched a career-high 40-45-85, 160 penalty minutes and a +20 plus/minus rating in 65 games with Lewiston in 2004-05.
The Blue Jackets return to action tonight when they host the San Jose Sharks at Nationwide Arena.
