It's a New Year and the Jackets Attempt to get Back to Winning Ways Tonight!

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

January 2

Happy New Year! With their miserable December behind them and it was anything but a "December to Remember" - the Blue Jackets hit the ice tonight against the surprising Colorado Avalanche at Nationwide Arena.

For the record, the Blue Jackets ended December with as 2-9-5 mark certainly not worthy of playoff consideration. But they are not out of it yet! That said, they MUST find some offense and QUICKLY! The Jackets have scored just one goal in five Consecutive games, a dubious franchise record and have found the back of the net 11 times in the last nine games. On the flip side, the Jackets have given up just four goals in their last four games but have little to show for it in the win column.

It's been said many, many times... the Blue Jackets NEED their top two lines to start producing! That hasn't been the case! Take a look at these numbers... Huselius goalless in 14 games, Nash one goal in last seven games, Vermette two goals last nine games, Umberger two goals last nine, Voracek no goals last nine and Torres the only Jacket to score New Year's Eve... scored his first in 11 games. Let this be the year's first understatement... The Jackets need an offensive explosion... how about tonight?

Steve Mason who has been solid in his last several starts gets the nod in goal this evening. Game time is 7 p.m. Hope to see you there. The game coverage on FOX Sports Ohio begins at 6:30 p.m. with Blue Jackets Live with Ray Crawford.
