COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets are once again teaming up with the American Red Cross for the "Hockey: It's in Your Blood" blood drive at Nationwide Arena (inside the Front St. doors) on Monday, Sept. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The blood drive, now in its seventh year, is part of a month-long partnership between the Columbus Blue Jackets and American Red Cross to recruit blood donors. Last year's drive saw over 18,500 pints donated in Central Ohio last year, supporting patients at 41 area hospitals.
Donors at the Nationwide Arena location will receive a pair of tickets to a Blue Jackets preseason game and an exclusive ticket offer to "Hockey: It's In Your Blood" Red Cross Night when the Jackets host the Vancouver Canucks on Monday, Oct. 10. All donors will also have the chance to enter to win a number of prizes including:
- Tickets to a game and a ride on the Zamboni® Ice Resurfacing Machine
- Weekly drawings for prize packs including Blue Jackets game tickets and autographed team memorabilia
- One LCD television
Donors are also encouraged to stop in for the Blue Jackets training camp session on the main ice during the blood drive from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
To schedule an appointment, call 1-(800)-GIVE-LIFE or visit the Central Ohio Region's Web site at www.redcrossblood.org. Eligible donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds and be in general good health. Although appointments are strongly recommended, walk-up donors are welcome.
The need for blood is constant. Trauma victims, cancer patients, premature babies and children who suffer from sickle cell disease often need blood products to survive. Every two seconds, someone in America needs blood, and in Central Ohio alone, the Red Cross must collect nearly 650 pints of blood each day to support patients at area hospitals.
