SECOND PERIOD RECAP: I
f you're Todd Richards, you have to like the response from the Blue Jackets after allowing the tying goal in the second period. It was a quick goal for the Devils, too, as Marek Zidlicky tallied on the power play only eight seconds into the man advantage. But the Blue Jackets shrugged it off and went right back to work, scoring a power play goal of their own to regain the lead after 40 minutes. Nick Foligno re-directed a centering pass from Jack Johnson behind Corey Schneider to give the Jackets a 2-1 lead, and it was all set up by a nice play on the entry by Gibbons (who has two assists tonight in his debut). Foligno did take a puck off the shoulder late in the period and headed down to the Jackets' dressing room, so his status is something we'll be keeping an eye on in the third period.

FIRST PERIOD RECAP: A much better opening period for the Blue Jackets tonight in Newark. They lead 1-0 on Jack Skille's third goal of the season, and it was set up by a perfect pass from Brian Gibbons in his Blue Jackets debut. Gibbons found a loose puck in the neutral zone and took off up-ice, leading to an odd-man rush that Skille coverted into an early Columbus lead. Anton Forsberg made 11 saves in the opening period of his NHL debut and had to deal with a couple of New Jersey power plays, but all in all, a solid start for the Blue Jackets just 24 hours after one of their more disappointing first periods of the season. One other note: Nick Foligno, playing center for the first time in a while, looked pretty good between Gibbons and Skille and gave the Jackets a second option behind the Johansen line in that first period. They'll open the second period with a brief power play thanks to Cam Atkinson's hustle that resulted in a late-period hooking call. Shots are 11-9 favoring the Devils.

MORNING SKATE UPDATES
* Anton Forsberg will make his NHL debut in goal tonight for the Blue Jackets.  Forsberg is 1-2-0 in three games with AHL Springfield, with a .921 save percentage.

Brian Gibbons will also make his season debut, his first game as a Blue Jacket. Gibbons will be in the lineup in place of Corey Tropp, who remains out with an illness. Gibbons had 17 points last year in 41 games for the Penguins, along with three points in eight playoff games.

*Shawn Mitchell reports Dalton Prout will be a healthy scratch, and Cody Goloubef will return to the lineup.

* No Matt Calvert at today's morning skate, per Shawn Mitchell of the Columbus Dispatch. Calvert, injured Oct. 24 in Anaheim, is eligible to be activated off injured reserve today but is not expected to play tonight in New Jersey.

* Ryan Johansen extended his points streak to 10 games last night with the primary assist on Cam Atkinson's power play goal in the third period. He's got the longest current points streak in the NHL, and his 10-game streak ties a Blue Jackets franchise record held by RJ Umberger.

* The top line of Hartnell-Johansen-Atkinson was a bright spot for the Blue Jackets last night. Overall, they're struggling to get anything going offensively despite a few really good chances on Leafs goaltender Jonathan Bernier. The addition of Nick Foligno helps, but they need more from other guys and to get others back in the lineup.

* Both McElhinney and Forsberg skated this morning, per Mitchell. Richards will divulge more details on tonight's lineup when he meets the media pre-game.

These were the lines and pairings used during Friday's game...

Hartnell-Johansen-Atkinson
Foligno-Wennberg-Skille
Dano-Chaput-Tropp*
Collins-Cracknell-Boll

Johnson-Tyutin
Murray-Savard
Erixon-Prout

McElhinney
Forsberg

*Tropp left the game due to illness in the second period. His status for tonight is unknown.

Welcome to Game No. 11, friends.

The Blue Jackets need to bounce back and in a big way tonight, on the heels of a 4-1 loss to the Maple Leafs at Nationwide Arena last night. The team arrived in New Jersey late last night and is taking part in an optional morning skate at Prudential Center today; Todd Richards is expected to meet with the media later today and discuss tonight's lineup.

Might we see Anton Forsberg make his NHL debut tonight? Richards said last night that "it's a possibility" but they would make a decision at some point today. Stay tuned to Game Day Central (pres. by AAA) for all the latest from Newark!
