9:35 P.M. -- SECOND PERIOD ANALYSIS:
Before we talk about anything else, we have to go over Matt Calvert's beautiful shorthanded goal late in the period that has this game tied at 1-1 headed to the third. A heads-up outlet pass by James Wisniewski got it started and Calvert went inside-out on a Blues defenseman, and one-handed it far side on Halak in one of the prettiest goals you'll see this season. It was a justified reward for a strong second period by the Blue Jackets, who kept their wits about them and didn't give the Blues much to work with and have stayed away from too much specials teams work. Bobrovsky has been solid between the pipes but, as has been the case, isn't getting much run support and only has one goal on his side tonight. It's a huuuuge third period coming up for the Blue Jackets, and they'll start it off on the power play.
8:45 P.M. -- FIRST PERIOD ANALYSIS:
Another good road period for the Blue Jackets, but one bad break has them on the losing end of a 1-0 score after 20 minutes at the Scottrade Center. Chris Stewart's rising slap shot (that looked to deflect off a defenseman's stick on the way in) gave St. Louis the lead with 6:05 left in the first, but the Blue Jackets had the better of the play after that...and often times, before the goal. Matt Calvert had a few high-end chances but one was thwarted by a heads-up stick check from Alex Pietrangelo and a missed target on another. A late power play gave Columbus more momentum and it headed into the dressing room with a 12-7 shots on goal advantage, but where it counts, still seeking the equalizer.

12:15 P.M. -- RECALL:
The Blue Jackets announced this afternoon that they've recalled Nick Drazenovic from the Springfield Falcons. Drazenovic played for the Falcons last night in their 5-2 win over Bridgeport, and is en route to St. Louis to meet the team. The Blue Jackets want to have enough healthy bodies at forward with a back-to-back set coming up and Artem Anisimov out of the lineup.

Good morning/afternoon and a happy game day to everyone! Great to be back after a thrilling win at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Still can't get enough of Vinny Prospal's game-winner with 24.7 seconds left, so to honor that sweet goal, I'm keeping the picture in today's blog even though the Blue Jackets are in St. Louis.
Speaking of St. Louis and the Blue Jackets, their second meeting of the season gets under way in about nine hours at the Scottrade Center. The last meeting was a 4-1 win for the Blues at Nationwide Arena, and it wasn't one of the Blue Jackets' better performances. It's a new day today and Columbus is coming off one its best efforts, so we'll see if they can parlay that into a second straight road win this evening.
As always, we'll have the latest from St. Louis as news happens -- and the blog will be updating throughout the day. I'll have in-game analysis between periods, so be sure to check back during intermissions, as well.
While we wait for the morning skate to begin (about a half an hour or so from now), you can check out Jeff Rimer's conversation with Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen exclusively on Jackets TV:
