Filatov Named to Russia WJC Roster

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Nikita Filatov has been named to Team Russia’s World Junior Championship Roster, the club announced today.

Filatov (pronounced nih-KEE-tuh FIHL-uh-tawf) was Columbus’ first pick, sixth overall, at the 2008 Entry Draft. He has registered seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points with 10 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating in 23 games with the Syracuse Crunch, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate, this season. He is tied for second on the club in assists, while ranking tied for third in goals and points. He also appeared in four games with the Blue Jackets, scoring the first goal of his NHL career in his NHL debut against Nashville on October 17.

The Moscow, Russia native collected 4-5-9 with 10 penalty minutes and was +7 in seven games at the 2008 World Junior Championships, helping Russia win the bronze medal. He led the club in assists, points and plus/minus rating. In 2007, he tallied 4-5-9 with six penalty minutes and was +4 in seven games at the World Under-18 Championships, helping Russia win the gold medal.

The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships begin December 26 in Ottawa, Ontario and conclude with the championship game on January 5. The 10 teams participating are Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden and the United States.

The Blue Jackets return to action Saturday when the club visits the Phoenix Coyotes. Game time at Arena is set for 9 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio HD will begin with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 8:30 p.m. The game also will be broadcast live on the Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship station WBNS-AM, Sports Radio 1460 The Fan beginning at 8:30 p.m.
