Fedorov, Modin Out and Glencross In vs. Preds

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

January 31

The Blue Jackets attempt to erase the memory of Tuesday's disappointing loss to Phoenix here in Nashville tonight. But they must do it with a full 60 minute effort and without two key veterans. Sergei Fedorov and Freddie Modin will not play.

Fedorov remains back in Columbus although the news is positive in that he exercised today with no ill effects and if all goes well he will skate with the team tomorrow at Nationwide.

The news on Modin is not as positive. Freddie attempted to skate on his own prior to the team taking the ice here in Nashville and left before his teammates made it on to the ice. He is bothered by a pulled hamstring and rather than risk further damage will sit out tonight. As Ken Hitchcock told a group of us after the skate... it's tough when you miss eight weeks, it is different from training camp and missing 35 games he is basically starting his season over.

Looks like Jiri Novotny and Jared Boll will line up alongside Rick Nash on the Jackets top line while Curtis Glencross after sitting out Tuesday returns to the lineup. Gilbert Brule although recalled yesterday appears to be tonight's healthy scratch.

Pascal Leclaire starts for the Blue Jackets tonight and is also likely to start Saturday at Nationwide against the Minnesota Wild.
