CRUNCH ANNOUNCE ROSTER MOVES: The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have reassigned left wing Curtis Glencross, center Geoff Platt, goaltender Tomas Popperle and defensemen Marc Methot and Derrick Walser to Syracuse. The team also announced that Columbus has reassigned right wing Petr Pohl to Dayton (ECHL) and that Syracuse has returned on loan defenseman Brad Farynuk and right wing Brent Walton to Dayton.

Glencross, 24, appeared in seven games with Columbus this season without registering a point. In 27 games with Syracuse this season, Glencross has tallied 16 goals, 16 assists and 44 penalty minutes. A native of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Glencross was acquired by Columbus from Anaheim on January 26, 2007.

Platt, 21, has appeared in 26 games with Columbus this season, recording 4 goals, 5 assists and 10 penalty minutes. In 50 games with Syracuse this season, Platt has recorded 27 goals, 20 assists and 53 penalty minutes. A native of Toronto, Ontario, Platt was signed as a free agent by Columbus on November 23, 2005.

Popperle, 22, appeared in two games with the Blue Jackets this season, totaling 45 minutes and a 1.35 goals against average. In 46 games with the Crunch in his rookie season, Popperle has posted a 24-17-4 record, a 2.85 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. A native of Broumov, Czech Republic, Popperle was drafted by Columbus in the fifth round, 131st overall, in the 2005 Entry Draft.

Methot, 21, has appeared in 20 games with the Blue Jackets, tallying four assists and 12 penalty minutes. In 56 games with the Crunch this season, Methot has tallied one goal, 14 assists and 50 penalty minutes. A native of Ottawa, Ontario, Methot was drafted by Columbus in the seventh round, 168th overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft.

Walser, 28, has appeared in nine games with Columbus this season, recording two goals. In 46 games with Syracuse, Walser has recorded 9 goals, 27 assists and 57 penalty minutes. A native of New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Walser was acquired by Columbus from Carolina on November 28, 2006.

Pohl, 20, appeared in one game with Syracuse this season without tallying any points.

Farynuk, 25, appeared in 16 games with Syracuse this season, tallying one assist and eight penalty minutes.

Walton, 23, appeared in 13 games with the Crunch this season, registering seven penalty minutes.

 

CALDWELL AND KLOUCEK ONT THREE-GAME POINT STREAKS: Both defensemen Ryan Caldwell and Tomas Kloucek were constants on the scoresheet for the Crunch this past week, helping Syracuse to a perfect week.

Caldwell tallied four points (2g, 2a) for the Crunch this past week. He has tallied career highs in goals (7), assists (23), points (30) and penalty minutes (89) this season. Kloucek tallied five points, giving him career highs in assists (9) and points (11).

 

NATIONWIDE INSURANCE COLUMBUS UPDATE: The Blue Jackets concluded their season with a 1-2-0 week, after being shutout by Detroit 3-0 on April 3, defeating Dallas 2-1 in overtime on April 5 and falling to Anaheim 4-3 on April 7. Center Geoff Platt registered one assist for the Blue Jackets.

 

THIS WEEK'S OPPONENTS:

ROCHESTER (BUFFALO SABRES/FLORIDA PANTHERS): Syracuse travels to Rochester on Friday, April 13 and host the Americans on Saturday, April 14 for the eleventh and twelfth of 12 regular season meetings between the clubs. Syracuse is 6-2-0-2 against Rochester after shutting them out 5-0 on April 7 at the War Memorial at Oncenter. Defenseman Filip Novak leads all players in head-to-head scoring with 10 points (2g, 8a). Right wing Mark Mancari leads all active Rochester players in head-to-head scoring with six points (1g, 5a). Goaltender Tomas Popperle has appeared in seven games for Syracuse, posting a 4-2-1 record, a 2.73 goals against average and a .898 save percentage. Goaltender Adam Dennis has appeared between the pipes four times for Rochester, posting a 0-4-0 record, a 4.80 goals against average and a .842 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch are 59-70-17 against the Americans.

 

WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON (PITTSBURGH PENGUINS): Syracuse concludes their regular season on Sunday, April 15 at Wachovia Arena for the eighth and final regular season meeting between the clubs. Syracuse is 2-4-1-0 against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton after losing to the Penguins 4-3 on March 13 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Center Rob Schremp leads all players in head-to-head scoring with five points (2g, 3a). Left wing Curtis Glencross leads all active Crunch players in head-to-head scoring with four points (2g, 2a). Former Crunch goaltender Andrew Penner has appeared in net four times for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, posting a 3-1-0 record, 1.96 goals against average and a .922 save percentage. Goaltender Tomas Popperle has appeared between the pipes five times for Syracuse, posting a 2-2-1 record, a 2.80 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. Lifetime, the Crunch are 35-27-7 against the Penguins.

 

CRUNCHABLES: Goaltender Joel Martin recorded a win in his Crunch debut on Thursday night against Hamilton… Left wing Curtis Glencross tallied four points (2g, 2a) in two games this week prior to being recalled by Columbus on Saturday… Goaltender Dan LaCosta posted back-to-back victories this week, including a 5-0 shutout over Rochester on Saturday night. It is his third shutout of the season.
