Down and Out?

by Bill Davidge / Columbus Blue Jackets

December 28

Nash, Peca, Modin, Malhotra, Brule… they were out of the lineup but the CBJ were not down. They battled but found another way to lose to the Nashville Predators, 4-3 in Nashville.

The penalty ridden first period was a joke… you figure it out as readers because not more needs to said… and that is all I am going to say about the subject! Good for the old campaigner Adam Foote for sticking up for a helpless Jiri Novotny on a good hit by Jordan Tootoo.

Wouldn't you love to have Jordan on your team?… or would you just like to play against him? Depends on if you are a coach, player or broadcaster, and there is no correct answer!

Congrats to Andrew Murray for his first game in the show. This guy has worked hard from his college days at Bemidji. He did not garner but 6:43 of ice, but he has to remember his nervous stomach for the rest of his life. Good for you Andrew, you have worked hard to get here for that cup of coffee.

Jiri Novotny played a solid game with almost 24 minutes of ice. Living proof in this game of hockey that if you go to the well too much with penalty killers early, one has no legs or energy to finish the game when you want it and need it from your players. The CBJ had to try and kill off six PP's in the first period.

Jared Boll was a sight all night in his 12:15 of ice. He played with Curtis Glencross and Sergei Fedorov and did not disappoint. Hits, taking and giving, as well as trying to pop one in for the game winner was part of his forte tonight… a heart and soul guy.

One key to the game tonight was not to just play a good road game, but to WIN a road game against an opposing team that knows us and how we play… we did not do it. We did play a good road game, though lessons are to be learned, the situation still is what it is… another disappointing loss.

Broken sticks and the communication with forwards and defense will be one area of support to be discussed in short. Another point of emphasis will be in defending off the rebound for forwards and defense, that will be scrutinized at length… need one not get into detail in this blog… For the goaltenders the idea of angle control and depth in the crease area will be a subject of review… come on back and see us Clint!

Stay tuned!! Carolina and Ray Whitney come and see us on the 29th!!
