It's day one of the Blue Jackets development camp, and we can officially report that all prospects are present and accounted for.
Early starts were abound as the players headed down to Nationwide Arena around 6:45 a.m. today, and went through the process of having their headshots taken for team publications, speaking with the team's public relations representatives about their Twitter accounts, and a whole lot more. It was the first step in a week dedicated to getting these kids prepared for lengthy, productive careers in the NHL.
We were down in the locker room early enough to catch 2012 first-round pick Ryan Murray (below) and Memorial Cup champion Michael Chaput (second picture below) get their new headshots taken. Yes, it was EARLY...
Tuesday began with the aforementioned responsibilities, then the players headed for some off-ice fitness testing under the watchful eye of strength and conditioning coach Kevin Collins and his staff. Right winger Cam Atkinson is pictured below on the bench press this morning:
After the first round of workouts in the morning, the guys boarded a bus that took them up to the track at Upper Arlington High School. They did a variety of runs to get the legs going, and got about an hour's worth of time in on the track before heading back to Nationwide for a group lunch.
At the time of writing this blog update, the prospects are at their hotel right now relaxing before their first on-ice workout. The session is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m., so if you want to see the players in action on the ice, head down to the OhioHealth Ice Haus to catch the first of several practices this week.
Ryan Murray and Oscar Dansk will be participating in tonight's Red, White & Boom parade throughout downtown Columbus. They'll be riding alongside the cannon, so look for them and the #CBJ logo if you're hanging out waiting for the show. Oh yeah, watch out for this guy...
We'll have a full recap on the blog, and a video update to follow as soon as the on-ice workouts are complete. Stay tuned!
