Dealing in Dallas

by Jeff Rimer / Columbus Blue Jackets

January 22

The Blue Jackets hope to get back to the win column tonight as they again meet the Stars here in Dallas. Saturday afternoon the Jackets deserved the two points but couldn't solve the netminding of Mike Smith who turned aside 29 of 30 shots in the 3-1 Dallas win. The Blue Jackets limited the Stars to 14 shots with a strong defensive effort that will be needed again tonight.

Smith incidentally, gets the nod again this evening over Marty Turco as Stars coach Dave Tippett rewards Smith for his effort Saturday... Pascal Leclaire goes again for Columbus.

As far as the rest of the lineup... Ron Hainsey will be a game time decision... and I fully expect him to play. He looked good on the ice this morning here in Dallas and as I said likely will go tonight.

Up front I was talking to my broadcast colleges this morning... I thought Andrew Murray looked real good here in practice yesterday and this morning and wouldn't be surprised to see him play tonight. I asked GM Scott Howson at practice yesterday if Murray, who joined the team here in Dallas Sunday, was cleared to play which Howson said he is, but to play tonight the Blue Jackets must clear a roster spot to activate him. They can do just that if they place Sergei Fedorov on IR. Feds has not played or practiced since getting rocked in Phoenix so those moves are a possibility. We will see tonight.

And this final note... the Blue Jackets made their second minor league trade on the Scott Howson watch... today dealing defenseman Darcy Campbell and Philippe Dupuis to Colorado for 29-year-old Mark Rycroft.

Rycroft will report to Syracuse. He has played 226 career NHL games... 21 goals, 25 assists for 46 points. Last season with the Avs the right winger scored six goals and added six assists and was a plus-3 in 66 games with Colorado.
