Davidge Dishes about Beating the Blues

by Bill Davidge / Columbus Blue Jackets

November 5

Full credit is do to a strong defensive effort by the team. Again, goaltender Pascal Leclaire, who recorded his 5th shutout, was poised in making 21 saves in a 3-0 win at Nationwide Arena. Malhotra scored on a beautiful play with a delayed penalty being called. The CBJ kept possession of the puck for well over a minute and if assists were given, it could have been a 10-assist goal, but in this game only two assists are awarded.

Ken Hitchcock said of Nash's 10th goal of the season "nice post up and then to the end zone" as he grabbed it out of the air on a post pattern from Zherdev. He beat Toivonen low stick-side as that late period goal broke the pride of the Blues. The Blues just completed three games in four nights.

Chimera, Malhotra and Fritsche are finally rewarded for their efforts since the line was reunited October 25th against these same Blues. Cycling and getting the puck behind the defense is a key for the "SPEED LINE".

The next three weeks are a time to distance themselves from the pack. With a record of 8-3-2 and 18 points, the CBJ have seven more divisional games with Chicago, Detroit and Nashville on the road in the next three!

Nikolai Zherdev is playing his best hockey, as he seems to be relaxed and having a ball. Defensively he continues to read the play… Offensively he has a magnet on his stick… He is not afraid to throw his weight around… but it will be nice to see him finish as he did in year one… and he will.

Foote was a true warrior, second star, 0-2-2 +2, three block shots, a full shift on the 5-on-3 and a cut lip on a non-call. I love to watch the heart take over a guy that is bleeding profusely, and yet trying to finish a shift. All kids that are playing the game can learn from a play like the one that the captain Adam Foote made against St. Louis!

A day off Monday and then prep begins for the Hawks - who just lost 5-2 to the Nashville Predators.
