Columbus Blue Jackets Trim Training Camp Roster by Nine Player

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have made their first roster moves of training camp September 21, returning seven draft picks to their respective junior clubs and releasing two others from their tryout contracts, Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced. The current training camp roster consists of 49 players.

The seven Blue Jackets draft picks/acquired players who were returned to their junior clubs were: forwards Michael Chaput (Philadelphia’s first pick, 89th overall, in the 2010 Entry Draft; acquired by Columbus in exchange for Tom Sestito on Feb. 28, 2011; assigned to Shawinigan, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League), Boone Jenner (Oshawa, Ontario Hockey League), Dalton Smith (Ottawa, Ontario Hockey League) and Lukas Sedlak (Chicoutimi, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League); defensemen Brandon Archibald (Saginaw, Ontario Hockey League) and Austin Madaisky (Kamloops, Western Hockey League) and goaltender Mathieu Corbeil (Saint John, Quebec Major Junior Hockey League).

In addition, the club released forwards Wade MacLeod and Mike Thomas from their tryout contracts. Both players have been invited to attend training camp with the Springfield Falcons, Columbus’ American Hockey League affiliate.

The Blue Jackets continue preseason tonight when the club hosts the Washington Capitals. Game time from Nationwide Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET. The game can be heard on the Wheeling Island Hotel & Casino Blue Jackets Radio Network on The Fan at 1460 AM and online at BlueJackets.com.
