Columbus Blue Jackets to host auditions for anthem singers on Aug. 30

by Staff Writer / Columbus Blue Jackets
The Columbus Blue Jackets will host an invitation-only audition for aspiring singers who wish to perform the National Anthem at Blue Jackets home games during the 2006-07 National Hockey League season. Tryouts for those invited to audition will be held at Nationwide Arena on Wednesday, August 30 beginning at 6 p.m.

Candidates will be asked to sing “The Star Spangled Banner” a capella while standing on the ice before a panel of judges. The song must be sung in a traditional rendition as it was written by composer Francis Scott Key and the performance must last no longer than 80 seconds.

“We are looking for an individual who can deliver an inspiring performance of our National Anthem primarily at Blue Jackets games although candidates will be considered for Destroyers games and other arena events as well,” said Kimberly Kershaw, Columbus Blue Jackets Director of Event Presentation and Production.

All candidates must be available for approximately 20 Blue Jackets home games. To be considered for an audition invitation, candidates may send a demo to:

Columbus Blue Jackets
200 W. Nationwide Blvd.
ATTN: Event Presentation – Anthem
Columbus, OH 43215.

Demos must be received no later than August 25, 2006. Upon receipt, candidates will be contacted regarding their invitation status.
