COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Will Weber to a standard two-year entry level contract, club Executive Vice President and General Manager Scott Howson announced April 6.
Weber, 23, just completed his senior season at Miami University (CCHA), where he registered four assists and 69 penalty minutes in 40 games. In 154 career games with the RedHawks, he tallied 4-26-30, 263 penalty minutes and a cumulative plus/minus rating of +26 from 2008-12.
A native of Gaylord, Michigan, Weber was the Blue Jackets’ third pick, 53rd overall, in the 2007 Entry Draft. He took home CCHA All-Tournament team honors in 2010-11 after recording 1-10-11, 57 penalty minutes and was +7 in 33 games. He was named CCHA Best Defensive Defenseman in 2009-10 after collecting 1-9-10, 62 penalty minutes and was +12 in 43 games, setting career highs in the latter two categories. Prior to his career at Miami, he notched 8-10-18, 137 penalty minutes and was +12 in 46 games with Chicago of the United States Hockey League.
The Blue Jackets return to action Saturday when the club hosts the New York Islanders. Game time from Nationwide Arena is set for 7 p.m. ET.
