Columbus Blue Jackets Reduce Roster to 26 Players

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets reduced their current roster to 26 players with several roster moves today, club General Manager Scott Howson announced.

The Blue Jackets assigned the following players to the Syracuse Crunch, the club’s American Hockey League affiliate: forwards Derick Brassard, Joakim Lindstrom and Tom Sestito. The club also assigned forward Derek MacKenzie and defenseman Sheldon Brookbank to the Crunch, pending each player clearing waivers. Columbus assigned forward Jakub Voracek to the Halifax Mooseheads of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and released defenseman Joel Bouchard from his professional tryout contract.

The Blue Jackets, who finished their preseason schedule with a 3-3-2 record, open their seventh NHL season on Friday against the defending Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks. Game time at Nationwide Arena is 7 p.m. A special pre-game show featuring U.S. Olympic figure skater Todd Eldredge will begin at approximately 6:45 p.m. and all fans in attendance will receive a free Nationwide Night rally flag.
