Columbus Blue Jackets Re-Sign Forward Alexandre Picard and Defenseman Marc Methot, Sign Forward Steve Kelly

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed forward Alexandre Picard and defenseman Marc Methot and signed forward Steve Kelly to one year two-way NHL and American Hockey League contracts, club General Manager Scott Howson announced July 16. As is club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Methot, 23, was Columbus' seventh pick, 168th overall, in the 2003 Entry Draft. He has registered four assists and 13 penalty minutes with a cumulative plus/minus rating of +11 in 29 career NHL games. Last season, he collected eight penalty minutes in nine games with the club. He collected 0-4-4, 12 penalty minutes and was +5 in 20 games during the 2006-07 season.

The Ottawa, Ontario native has spent most of the past three seasons with the Syracuse Crunch, the club's AHL affiliate. In 195 career AHL games, he has registered 10-32-42, 263 penalty minutes and is +27. He tallied 7-6-13, a career-high 130 penalty minutes and was +10 in 66 games in 2007-08. Prior to turning professional, he notched 8-34-42, 200 penalty minutes and was +91 in 198 games with the Ontario Hockey League's London Knights from 2002-05.

Picard, 22, was Columbus' first pick, eighth overall, in the 2004 Entry Draft, and has collected 0-1-1 and 22 penalty minutes in 43 career games with the Blue Jackets. He collected 0-1-1 and six penalty minutes and appeared in a career-high 23 games in 2006-07. Last year, he played in three games with Columbus and tallied 7-13-20, 116 penalty minutes and was +5 in 50 games with the Crunch.

In 143 career AHL games, Picard has tallied 33-46-79, 241 penalty minutes and has a cumulative plus/minus rating of +7. The Les Saules, Quebec native played four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, racking up 93-104-197, 289 penalty minutes and was +28 in 206 games with Sherbrooke and Lewiston. He posted back-to-back 80-point seasons with Lewiston, tallying 39-41-80 in 69 games in 2003-04 and 40-45-85 in 65 games in 2004-05.

Edmonton's first pick, sixth overall, in the 1995 Entry Draft, Kelly has registered 9-12-21 and 83 penalty minutes in 149 career NHL games with Minnesota, Los Angeles, New Jersey, Tampa Bay and Edmonton during his 12-year professional career. He won a Stanley Cup championship with the New Jersey Devils in 2000, as he appeared in 10 playoff games with the club. In 2007-08, he appeared in two games with the Wild and tallied 10-18-28 and 81 penalty minutes in 48 games with the Houston Aeros, the Wild's AHL affiliate. He has picked up 92-205-297, 690 penalty minutes and is +40 in 345 career AHL games.

The 31-year-old Vancouver, British Columbia native played in Germany from 2004-07 after spending the previous three-plus seasons in the Kings organization. During that time, he tallied an AHL career-high 21-49-70 with 117 penalty minutes and a +32 plus/minus rating in 59 games with Manchester in 2003-04.
