Columbus Blue Jackets Prospects Straka, Sedlak Named to Czech Republic's National Junior Team for the 2012 World Junior Championships

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Columbus Blue Jackets prospects Petr Straka and Lukas Sedlak were among 27 players selected to comprise the Czech Republic’s National Junior Team at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championships in Edmonton and Calgary from December 26 through January 5, 2012.


Straka, 19, was the Blue Jackets’ third pick, 55th overall, in the 2010 Entry Draft. He has registered eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points and has 19 penalty minutes in 26 games with the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League this season. In 129 career QMJHL games, he has collected 46-61-107 and 106 penalty minutes. He was named QMJHL Rookie of the Year, was selected to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team and to play in the CHL Top Prospects Game in 2009-10.

Sedlak, 18, was the Blue Jackets’ sixth pick, 158th overall, in this past June’s Entry Draft held at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has tallied nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points, has 32 penalty minutes and is +10 in 24 games with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens of the QMJHL, his first season in North America. He ranks second on the club in plus/minus rating and is fourth in points. Last season he recorded 14-13-27 and 65 penalty minutes in 47 games with Ceske of the Czech Under-20 League.
