COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets join the National Hockey League in support of Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Month by hosting the club’s annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night in partnership with OhioHealth on Friday, October 25 when the Jackets host the Toronto Maple Leafs. All fans in attendance will receive free cheer cards courtesy of OhioHealth. During the game, several pediatric cancer heroes will be honored by participating in a variety of in-game experiences including an on-ice, pre-game introduction alongside the Blue Jackets. In addition, this night will also celebrate the work of cancer care providers as select OhioHealth physicians will receive special in-game recognition.
In keeping with the NHL’s message that the color purple represents awareness for all types of cancer, the Blue Jackets Foundation will host several themed fundraisers to benefit its Hats For Heroes program and the fight against pediatric cancer.
- Purple Jersey Auction (Oct. 22 & 25): Players will wear purple jerseys during pre-game warm-ups on Fri., Oct. 25. The complete set of authentic worn jerseys will be individually autographed by the respective players and available for bidding in the silent auction located on the arena’s Bud Light Terrace during the games on Tues., Oct. 22 and Fri., Oct. 25. All jerseys will have a starting bid of $150 with bids being accepted through the end of the second intermission of the October 25 game.
- Purple Hockey Fights Cancer T-shirt Sale: T-shirts will be available for purchase at the Columbus Blue Jackets Foundation kiosk. Supplies are limited.
The night also marks the first opportunity for fans to purchase the 2013-14 edition Hats For Heroes hats, which will be available at all FOX Sports Ohio Blue Line locations in the arena on this night only. Thanks to donations by the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9 and Halo Branded Solutions, 100% of the hat sales will directly benefit Hats For Heroes.
The fight against pediatric cancer remains the Blue Jackets Foundation's signature focus for much of its fundraising, programming, and grant-making efforts. Highlighted by the Hats For Heroes program, more than $1 million has been raised since 2000. Dollars raised currently fund a variety of support programs for pediatric cancer patients and their families, critical research projects and assistance in providing palliative care to young victims.
