Columbus Blue Jackets Place Left Wing R.J. Umberger on Injured Reserve

COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have placed left wing R.J. Umberger on injured reserve, club Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Scott Howson announced January 17. Umberger suffered an upper body injury at Anaheim on January 8 and is listed as week-to-week.

Umberger, 29, has registered seven goals and 11 assists for 18 points and 12 penalty minutes 42 games with the Blue Jackets this season. He ranks fourth on the club in goals and points. He had his franchise record for consecutive games played streak come to an end at 288 games when he missed the Jan. 13 vs. Phoenix game.

Vancouver's first pick, 16th overall, in the 2001 Entry Draft, he has tallied 130-162-292 and 221 penalty minutes in 516 career games with Columbus and Philadelphia. He was acquired from Philadelphia in exchange for a first round pick (Luca Sbisa) and third round pick (Marc-Andre Bourdon) in the 2008 Entry Draft on June 20, 2008. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native has recorded 81-95-176 in 288 games with Columbus, ranking fourth on the club’s all-time list in goals and points.
