COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Columbus Blue Jackets have loaned forward Nikita Filatov to CSKA (pronounced CHESH-ka) of the Kontinental Hockey League for the remainder of the 2009-10 season, General Manager Scott Howson announced November 17.
Filatov has appeared in 13 games with the Blue Jackets this season, scoring two goals and adding eight penalty minutes and an even plus/minus rating. He has tallied 6-0-6 and eight penalty minutes in 21 NHL games over the past two seasons.
"Nikita is a top prospect in our organization and we believe it is in the best interest of his development to play more and in all situations in the KHL," said Howson. "We have agreed to his request to be assigned to CSKA and this should afford him the opportunity to continue to work and develop his game in his hometown of Moscow."
Filatov, 19, was Columbus' first pick, sixth overall, in the 2008 Entry Draft. Last season, he tallied four goals in eight games with the Blue Jackets and notched 16-16-32 and 24 penalty minutes in 39 games with the Syracuse Crunch, the club's American Hockey League affiliate. He split the 2007-08 season between CSKA's Junior and Super League teams.
The Blue Jackets return to action Thursday when they visit the Dallas Stars. Game time from American Airlines Center is 8:30 p.m. ET. Live coverage on FOX Sports Ohio HD begins with the Blue Jackets Live pre-game show starting at 8 p.m. The game will also be broadcast live on the Wheeling Island Hotel Casino Blue Jackets Radio Network and flagship station WWCD-FM, CD101 and online at BlueJackets.com.
